GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 606760
Support for application-indicators/StatusNotifierIcon
Last modified: 2011-06-23 16:33:08 UTC
We would like to support application-indicators for seahorse as proposed at this page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopExperienceTeam/ApplicationIndicators The work has not started, so I wanted to open this bug as a placeholder and to get feedback on the feature, thanks!
Jorge, This doesn't appear to really have any GNOME/upstream buy in yet. In any case, it's the daemon not the applet that has a status notifier and the applet is now in seahorse-plugins.
FWIW, I've been thinking some about moving the gpg agent into gnome-keyring. It would allow tighter security, and one less moving part on the desktop, and eventually allow implementing some of the RSA/key based parts of a GPG agent, not just password caching. If we do this, then I was also thinking of having an (optional) applet that shows all the 'unlocked' stuff in gnome-keyring-daemon from a single icon.
Stef: That would make sense given that the ssh-agent is already there. It would also be a good place to extend the card reader and certs/keys on smart cards functionality present in gpg2.
seahorse doesn't use a GtkStatusIcon nowadays, that's obsolete
