GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 606027
Tabs should be displayed at the top
Last modified: 2010-03-08 17:08:17 UTC
Commit c6ee7553fd029239eff50d32dbcb57223ffa185e moved the tabs to be displayed at the bottom, saying "There is way to much visual clutter at the top already, with the location bars and toolbars." Well, two points against this change: * no other (gnome) application have this interface * there is no point in scattering the interface widgets a bit everywhere. The top (and left) should be the _only_ place with active widgets. If it's "cluttered", so be it.
also other problems like on a big screen moving mouse between top and bottom of the window for navigation is not a good idea. the visual clutter is also more of a opinion as in GNOME 2.28 it was there and nobody really complained. though a better solution is nice but moving tabs to bottom is very bad idea and confusing.
I agree with Praveen: the increase of travel distance for the mouse is annoying. Could you please consider adding an option in the Preferences that allows the user to choose between the bottom and the top position for the tabs? (Or at least a gconf key if you don't want to put to many items in the Preferences window.) Thanks in advance.
I have been trying to get used to this tabs at the bottom business. I really like the spit view and feel that I should be more productive with it in place. The tabs at the bottom prevent this. It is faster to go to the earlier version and have 2 half width windows with the tabs at the top.
Agreed. But I don't see them reverting it any time soon :(
Reverted! http://git.gnome.org/browse/nautilus/commit/?id=4d742c83498df29d6f4b853dca946c0b4c4b13a3
This is fixed in master.
Thanks.
