When doing rapid messaging, it would be much easier and comfortable to close chat windows on ESC and not to use mouse, especially for those who does most tasks with the keyboard shortcuts. The suggestion is to allow closing chat windows on ESC.

Thanks for reporting this; it was already requested in bug 554845, and declined.
