Description Brad Rubenstein 2010-01-04 02:10:44 UTC
Build 2.3.8 tarball on Fedora Core 12.

I brought up the New Job dialog, and didn't know what the Billing ID meant. So I pressed the help button.

The help page displayed was titled "Account Tab Display", and the section visible was "4.2.1.5 Account Tree - Business Menu".

There was no mention of Billing ID anywhere. It looks like the wrong help page.

(Aside - is it supposed to be the Customer PO number? why not label it "PO Number"? No bookkeeper or accountant has ever used the term "Billing ID", as far as I know. Should I file that as an bug?)

There's a section about Customer jobs in the Guide (section 12.7) and a section about Vendor Jobs in section 13.6.

Both of these specific sections are written like a good help file, without a lot of "tutorialish" examples. They just list the different fields and explain their meaning.

I propose moving these sections into the help and then linking the "New Job" dialog into the appropriate section of the help.

I also suggest a few small updates:
* "you must create them using the Business → Customer → New Job application"

Change "application" to "menu item"

* For Job Number, link to Book options where it explains how counters are used in the business module.

* Owner Info - Customer: The link would have to be changed, since it points to the guide, and we can't link across the two documents.

* Clarify a few paragraphs later that Billing ID is also optional.

PO means purchase order?
That should at least be mentioned in a translator comment.

A fix for this bug is in revision 23705. After moving most part of A/P and A/R documentation from the guide in a new section called "Business features" in the help, I linked the Help buttons to this new chapter. I'm aware that some text is missing (f.e. for employees) and that some tweaking is needed [1] but if there are no objections I'll close this bug in a couple of days.
