GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 605835
Orca sometimes ignores text in OpenOffice Writer
Last modified: 2013-01-06 22:22:45 UTC
Occasionally when reading files in OpenOffice Writer, I notice certain chunks of text appear to be ignored. I will be arrowing down through a document and come to a point where no feedback is given, not even the indication of a blank line. If I continue arrowing down, eventually I reach new text, but it is not the text in the ignored region. I can generally reproduce this in files from Microsoft programs, such as .docx or .rtf. However, it isn't consistent: I can usually maximize and unmaximize the window, for instance, and it goes away for a few minutes until I reach another such block of ignored text.
Zachary, are you still seeing the problem? If so, could you please do the following: 1. Capture a full debug.out taken whilst the problem is occurring (http://live.gnome.org/Orca/Debugging) 2. Attach that output to this bug 3. Attach the document used in the debug.out to this bug Thanks in advance!
Planning spam. Sorry!
Zachary, may I ask you to address the questions asked in comment #1, although Joanmarie doesn't want me to help out and send reminders here? Thanks in advance.
Hi, No, apologies, I have not noticed the problem lately. However, I haven't used OpenOffice very much lately either, so it might not be actually fixed.
There are some bugs introduced in LibreOffice 3.6 (which was released significantly after this bug was filed) and we need the LibreOffice folks to fix them. But independent of that, e.g. when using LibreOffice 3.5 things seem to be working as expected and text is not being ignored. That plus the age of this bug, makes me think that this bug is fixed. If this bug is still reproducible with a pretty recent Orca and LibreOffice 3.5, and a reliable test case can be found, please reopen or file a new bug and attach the test case. Thanks!
