Output of /etc/mtab and /proc/mounts

Pushing the button on the CD/DVD drive to eject it ejects the disc, but a second item appears in computer:/// which retains the volume name of the disc in the following format: "CD/DVD Drive: Volume Name". Reinserting the disc creates a second volume in computer:///, named as usual ("Volume Name") which functions normally. The "CD/DVD Drive: Movies" entry, however, returns "Unable to mount location" when opened.

Only affects manual ejecting (pushing the button on the drive).

Properties of CD/DVD Drive entry returns unknown in all fields.

This problem leads to an even worser one:

I browsed a CD, then ejected it (pressing the CD drive's eject button). Then I inserted a blank disc (CD-RW) and tried to burn it using brasero. A popup appeared saying "preparing writing" or so. The popup never disappeared and I was not able to burn the CD-RW.

By using wodim on the command line, I noticed that wodim wasn't able to get the CD device exclusively. I umounted the CD in Nautilus, then burning worked again (with brasero).

Note that a normal user may get completely stuck by this, without even noticing that the problem is not related to the task she is performing (burning a CD) :-(

I can confirm seeing this in Ubuntu 10.04 but only using my external USB CD/DVD drive. Pressing the button on the drive ejects the CD but a phantom CD holding its name remains on the desktop.

Inserting a different CD does not display a new name and requires me to eject the disc again through software (nautilus eject button) to be able to load the second disc and see its content.

My workaround for now is to always use software to eject disc.
