"Open with other application" dialogue doesn't accept commands

It is not possible to enter commands in the "Open with other application" dialogue. Instead you have to enter the full path. This makes no sense considering the command/environment oriented approach of Linux and the low percentage of people that know where to find the correct executable of the right application. This bug was originally reported by Leandro on Launchpad in Ubuntu at <https://launchpad.net/bugs/488143>.
As explained in the downstream report, the dialog shown there is the one which appears when trying to open or download a file with Firefox
