Description Sense Hofstede 2009-12-17 10:42:53 UTC
At least two users reported downstream that if a desktop background slideshow has been running for a long while it gets stuck, apparently during the fade in of one wallpaper and the fade out of the other.

I'm not so sure where to look for the cause of this. It would probably be good to ask them to run the desktop drawer in valgrind, but it would take a long time for it to get stuck and I don't know that much about what binary actually draws the background. Any ideas?

This bug was originally reported by Michael DePaulo on Launchpad in Ubuntu at <https://launchpad.net/bugs/472793>.

Does this still occur?
Comment 2 Dan Doel 2013-05-12 01:39:04 UTC
This still occurs for me, using Gnome 3.8.

Incidentally, it seems that the shell and the actual desktop background can get stuck in different places with regard to this bug.

Earlier, I had the desktop stuck in the middle of a transition, while entering the overlay woudld display the correct background on the desktop. However, at the moment, I have the shell overlay stuck in the middle of a transition, while the desktop is displaying the current background.

The lock screen seems to be stuck in the same state as the shell overlay at the moment.

The miniature previews seem to always be in proper sync, regardless of the other two, but perhaps I simply haven't seen them break yet.
