GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 604572
"apply permissions to enclosed files" doesn't work with symlinks
Last modified: 2021-06-18 15:15:27 UTC
this report has been filed here: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/495697 "when changing the permissions of a directory, the 'apply permissions to enclosed files' button had no effect. why? because (after much head scratching) the directory turned out to be a symlink to a directory. the button should either work (ie: follow the symlink and do its job) or be greyed out (or better yet tell you why it's not working). my preference would be to just follow the symlink and get on with it." Thanks,
Still valid on nautilus 3.8
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version of Files (nautilus), then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
