Description Omer Akram 2009-12-09 15:36:20 UTC
when i open a channel for example on irc.freenode.net #ubuntu this channel usually have more that 1300people all the time so it takes almost 10secs for dear empathy to get responsive and open the channel. the same task is done within a second in pidgin.

It took about 10 seconds for me as well.

Comment 3 Omer Akram 2010-01-17 17:19:55 UTC
this bug is a real showstopper for empathy's IRC
Comment 4 Peter Kirn 2010-04-23 18:48:42 UTC
This bug should be reworded as "causes the Empathy client to time out," not "takes too long."

The issue is two-fold:
1. It can take a long time to retrieve a large number of connected participants. That's undesirable, but the more significant issue:

2. Retrieving that list is placed on a blocking thread, rather than retrieving participants one at a time or connecting in the background, either of which could prevent Empathy from becoming unresponsive when a user joins a room.
