Description kxra 2009-12-07 20:04:47 UTC
Muji aims to add this for XMPP http://telepathy.freedesktop.org/wiki/Muji

This is likely the reason iChat only supports video chatting with other iChat users as described in https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=593604

MeBeam should be supported as well http://www.adiumxtras.com/index.php?a=xtras&xtra_id=4959

There is already a bug opened about Muji support: bug #599168

Once it will be implemented, it will be "just" a matter of writing a Telepathy connection manager implementing MeBeam.

The UI also needs to support it, doesn't it?

No, if the connection manager implements the right Telepathy interface, that should automatically work in Empathy (once Muji is implemented). Thanks Telepathy! :)
