Description Charley Wang 2009-12-05 21:10:13 UTC
For example:

When working, I like to have Eclipse, 3 Terminal windows and a gedit instance.
When playing, I like to have Firefox, Rhythmbox and XChat
When writing, I like to have Rhythmbox, texmaker and Firefox open

Is there some way to save states?

I know I can put them in separate workspaces, and that will be fine until I turn off my computer, but can there be a way to save the 'applicatino status' [at a low level, just what windows are open. On a high level, also the contents/state of that application, if possible].

That would make it easier to switch between my different work/play modes :)

(bugzilla spam: populating the new "extensions" component with bugs discussing features that are not part of the core spec, but could be implemented externally once the extension system is done.)

Most of the applications you mentioned support session saving through XSMP / GnomeSession (but the extent of the state saved depends on the individual application). Mutter support this for the window manager part (putting window back at same geometry and workspace).
I'm therefore closing as NOTABUG
