Description marker 2009-12-05 20:28:56 UTC
Using a fresh install of ubuntustudio 9.10, I was using rhythmbox to listen to some files on my hard drive. Part way through a track, the music stopped and rhythmbox threw up this error box:

"Couldn't start playback

Internal GStreamer error: pad problem. Please file a bug at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=GStreamer."

... so here I am duly reporting the problem, I hope this helps someone.

Can you reproduce it? Trying to play the same file again, does it fail?
Comment 2 Péter Tóth 2010-01-05 15:20:53 UTC
I get this error frequently - several times a day. I filed a bug in Launchpad - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/502570 - and was about to file one here when I saw it was here already.
Comment 3 Péter Tóth 2010-01-05 15:22:21 UTC
One more thing: I get this error with different files. The same file will not necessarily reproduce the problem, but if I listen for an hour or so, the error will appear again.

Reopening as the requested information has been probived.
Comment 5 Tim-Philipp Müller 2010-06-16 22:06:09 UTC
Peter: could you please try the packages from the GStreamer PPA? Your bug report contains a 'GStreamer-WARNING **: Element bin2 already has parent' warning, which if I remember correctly is a playbin bug that's been fixed ages ago (Ubuntu 9.10 is a bit old..)

Reporter (marker@indymedia.org): same for you please, could you try the GStreamer PPA packages and/or a newer ubuntu version? It would be great if you could catch a GST_DEBUG=*:5 log of the problem and attach it or make it available somewhere.
