Description François Tissandier 2009-12-03 15:59:53 UTC
Every 7 minutes or so, Empathy is very briefly disconnected and reconnects immediately.

It does not happen with Pidgin, or Spark, but only with Empathy.
Comment 1 François Tissandier 2009-12-03 16:00:34 UTC
Additional info: it's ony disconnecting with Openfire server, not with Gtalk servers. I didn't try any other XMPP server so far.
Comment 2 Xavier Claessens 2009-12-03 16:07:27 UTC
I think this is a known issue between openfire and telepathy-gabble. They are not using the same keepalive mechanism IIRC.
Comment 3 Jonathon Conte 2010-02-21 07:25:52 UTC
I am using empathy 2.28.1.1-0ubuntu1 and telepathy-gabble 0.8.7-1ubuntu1 on Ubuntu 9.10 and I am experiencing a similar problem. I have an XMPP account on jabber.org (which recently switched over to M-Link for its XMPP server).

Approximately every 9 minutes that there is no activity on my jabber.org account, empathy is disconnected from jabber.org and then automatically reconnects a second later. I have two friends on my jabber.org contact list who also use the same versions of the software that I am using and who both also have XMPP accounts on jabber.org. They are both experiencing the exact same problem (approximately every 9 minutes that their jabber.org accounts are idle their accounts are automatically disconnected and then are reconnected a second later).

If there is any additional information that I can provide to assist with addressing this bug please let me know. Thanks.

I have opened bug 26690 on fdo's bug tracker (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26690) because my problem seems to be related to telepathy-gabble and not empathy itself.
Comment 5 Danielle Madeley 2010-02-22 02:18:04 UTC
The Telepathy API exposes no responsibility for keep-alive, so this is not an Empathy bug.
