GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 602787
Naming Playlists Automatically Would be Awesome
Last modified: 2020-03-17 08:27:31 UTC
I often create playlists that represent albums. So I select all the songs in an album, right click, and create a new playlist. Then I go and name the playlist something like: "Artist - Album Name". I think Amarok did this naming for me, which was awesome. The functionality is pretty simple: if all tracks have the same artist, name the playlist the artist's name. If all tracks have the same artist and album, name it as above. Otherwise, just use the present naming convention. Something like that, anyway.
Smart playlist version of the same request: bug 348073
Right. Meant to mention that...I'll go cross-list over there as well. Is there a "related to" flag or something we can raise on these two bugs?
I suppose you can use the "Depends on" flag, but maybe this does not apply in this case.
Bottom right corner there's a "see also" option. I don't know how often people actually use that, but it might be good to establish a link between the two bugs.
OK, officially linked the two bugs. One additional comment I'll make is that after creating a new playlist, if it can't be auto-named, the cursor should automatically allow typing of the playlist name, rather than forcing the user to select the playlist, then hit F2 to name it.

Banshee is not under active development anymore and had its last code changes more than three years ago. Its codebase has been archived. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is being shut down) if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again.
