Description Michael Terry 2009-11-23 19:29:07 UTC
This is a request to use "Wide mode" by default. For netbooks it is not uncommon that cheese is too tall (and cheese is a such a good fit otherwise, since almost all netbooks have webcams).

Almost any monitor will be wider than it is tall anyway. I think wide mode is a more reasonable default.

not everybody wants to have the wide mode enabled by default. a solution for netbooks would be to change the cheese desktop file to start cheese with the -w flag

I take what you said to mean "wide mode is not appropriate for everyone". But that's why it's an option, eh? Presumably neither wide-mode or vertical-mode are appropriate for everyone or it would be hardcoded.

I'm saying that cheese looks fine in wide-mode on everyone's monitor, so it's a more logical default than one that only looks good on some, all else being equal. Those who love the vertical look can still change it, but I think wide-mode looks nicer on the vastly more common wider-than-tall monitors.

Although now that I say that, why not just hardcode wide mode? What's the advantage of vertical mode?

well, the original design was the vertical mode, which got optimized since several years ago. also, it is a matter of recognition of product.

if you want to have a wide mode by default, just edit the cheese.desktop file to use the -w flag
