GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 602497
Progress bar doesn't stop if there are no search results
Last modified: 2009-11-22 16:58:23 UTC
With Totem 2.28.2, if my search string has only ascii characters, it's ok (I see results and I can display videos), but if my search string contains non-ascii characters, the search seems to loop infinitely and I never see results. To reproduce the bug, make this search in the Youtube plugin search field: chaplin la ruée vers l'or We never see any results. Now change the search string to: chaplin la ruee vers l'or and we immediately see results.
I can confirm this bug with totem 2.28.2
Fixed on gnome-2-28 and master. It wasn't a problem with accented or Unicode characters; merely that the YouTube search API was returning no results for the query, and we weren't handling that very well in the UI. commit 19e811da24496f44dbc25812aff666497bc782b0 Author: Philip Withnall <philip@tecnocode.co.uk> Date: Sat Nov 21 20:48:42 2009 +0000 Bug 602497 — Progress bar doesn't stop if there are no search results Ensure the YouTube progress bar stops once a search is finished, even if there are no results. Are you sure? This problem also happens if I search for "phylactère cola" which returns result in youtube website. If I use "phylactere cola" instead, it works correctly.
You are correct. On further investigation, it turns out that while the query was working fine, it wasn't returning any results because it was subtly broken. This is fixed in version 0.5.1 of libgdata (just released), which should fix it in Totem without further changes.
Thank you very much for the clarification about the status of this bug!
