GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 602461
X grab lockup when drag-and-droping the url drag handle on the desktop
Last modified: 2014-08-26 19:52:42 UTC
Using an Inspiron 5000, Debian503 (X86), kernel2-6-26-2 (686), Gnome2.22.2~5, Galeon web-browser2.0.6-2.1 Cannot find a specific link for Gnome-Galeon so this seems close for those interested. Problem: when dragging the page-link shortcut (symbol on location bar) to the desktop, the machine locks up tight. No keyboard or mouse function possible. BUT a brief press of the laptop's power button will bring up the shutdown menu bar. From there, just wait for the 60-sec countdown to Shutoff.
Sounds like an X problem. No idea why you think this is somehow related to Epiphany. In any case, Gnome 2.22 is very obsolete so I suggest you upgrade to a more recent version of Gnome and try again. Thanks!
You can also activate the menu (with Alt+F for example) to exit drag mode
It seems that this bug happens with quite a lot of GTK applications. I can reproduce it three of four times a day with Epiphany-webkit (2.29.2), it also happens with liferea. Galeon has not seen any code changes since May 2010: https://git.gnome.org/browse/archive/galeon/log This project is not under active development anymore and got recently archived in GNOME Git. It is currently unlikely that there will be any further active development. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality. Please feel free to reopen this bug report in the future if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again.
