Hi.

I'm having issues with the new Epiphany handling of Chinese GB and Chinese BIG5
encoding. I was trying to have a line of Chinese BIG5 text translated to
Chinese GB using Yahoo Babel Fish but the resulting translation turned out to
be nothing but gibberish (see
http://www.imgplace.com/viewimg405/7641/62encodingissues228gnom.png). For what
it is worth, the webpage also renders rather horribly.

Trying with firefox 3.5.4+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.10.1 went smoothly i.e. it
returned the correct Chinese GB translation as expected (see
http://www.imgplace.com/viewimg405/8997/56encodingissues228gnom.png).

It seems to be a webkit and not gecko issue again just as in #600917 as I have
had no similar problems in prior versions of Epiphany e.g. GNOME 2.26.Hope
someone can help.

 affects ubuntu/epiphany-browser

Rgds

Comment 1 Gustavo Noronha (kov) 2009-11-08 12:52:20 UTC
Could you post a line of Chinese BIG5 text so that we can reproduce the problem locally?
Comment 2 Rajasun 2009-11-09 09:27:34 UTC
Ok. Here is that line of Chinese BIG5 text:

廣東人喜歡看粵劇,首先就要知道粵劇的特點,就是以廣東話作為聲腔進行演出的。粵劇的源頭在於外江戲,這不是廣東本來自己土生土長的戲劇。

Rajasun: Please never set the GNOME target field. Thanks.
Comment 4 Rajasun 2009-11-10 18:09:38 UTC
Ok André. Noted. Sorry.
Comment 5 Jean-François Fortin Tam 2014-03-16 15:39:13 UTC
I can see the chinese text in this bug report with Epiphany. Does this still occur for you with Epiphany 3.10?
Comment 6 André Klapper 2014-10-28 21:46:54 UTC
Comment 2 works for me too with Epiphany 3.10. Closing as INCOMPLETE.
