Description felipemoraesbr 2009-11-03 02:27:44 UTC
zte mf100 minimodem isn really recognized by the application. The application asks to configure the network, and "conects" but internet do not work. Using the usb_modeswitch workaround I found which the the problem is only the unrecognized minimodem, everything else is allright.

when usb_modeswitch is used, in the app configuration window it asks for what minimodem device the configuration will use(and the posterior conection works), something absent when usb_modeswitch isn used and conec fails.

My OS version is 9.10 and im using ubuntu.

When you say "internet does not work", can you post the contents of your /etc/resolv.conf file when this happens, and can you ping the first "nameserver" listed in /etc/resolv.conf?
Comment 2 felipemoraesbr 2009-11-03 03:01:52 UTC
Im gratefull for the quick answer.

resolv.conf is blank when this happens, so I cannot ping to the first nameserver.

the app says im connected, but as i said before the connection does not really work.

When I use usb_modeswitch, resolv.conf have 2 nameserver, and internet works nicely.

Hope you fix that soon, it is really annoying to have to first execute <sudo /usr/sbin/usb_modeswitch -W -c /etc/usb_modeswitch.conf> then trying again and again until I have a really working connection with zte mf100...everytime I log in in my desktop

mode switching isn't really the domain of NetworkManager; your distro should be setting that up for you and upstream usb_modeswitch is working on making it more automatic.

You can also set up udev rules to do the switch for you automatically when you plug the device in, as described on the usb_modeswitch website.

I did the stuff to automatically switch the device, but curiously it doest not work always.

If this is not a gnome network manager problem where I should post this bug? I really wanted not only for me, but all zte mf100 users to just plug the device and it works
Comment 6 felipemoraesbr 2009-11-17 22:06:47 UTC
Without any usb_modeswitch stuff...
Comment 7 Dan Williams 2009-11-18 00:56:48 UTC
File a bug with your distribution against the usb_modeswitch component. This will never work without usb_modeswitch or some userspace mode switching tool, since the hardware simply isn't built that way.
