Description Krzysztof Kosiński 2009-11-01 22:57:40 UTC
In Ubuntu Karmic, It is not possible to alter the Alias field of Gadu-Gadu contacts in Empathy. Editing it in the Edit dialog has no effect - the alias is not changed. This doesn't happen for other account types.

This is rather serious: Gadu-Gadu IDs are 7- or 8-digit numbers, and without the ability to give aliases, GG contact lists are rather useless.

This is a telepathy-haze issue. Please open a bug on https://bugs.freedesktop.org/
Comment 2 Patryk Zawadzki 2009-12-28 23:52:06 UTC
TP devs suggest either storing this locally (this is what the official Windows client does) or abusing the "export" mechanism that allows one to store the serialized list as a CSV file on the server. Not sure if libpurple even wraps the latter.

Should I reopen?

For reference - fd.o bug is here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24880
Comment 4 Krzysztof Kosiński 2010-03-19 22:41:49 UTC
Any news? This bug makes Empathy useless for 95% of Polish users.
I think Empathy should do what fd.o devs suggest (store the aliases locally).
