Description rom 2009-10-31 14:51:47 UTC
I enabled "compact mode" in nautilus preferences, it works for all folders, except /home/rom.

I have no idea why…

EDIT: The behaviour is very inconsistent, for some folders, whatever the compact mode is enabled or not, they are in compact mode. For some other, whatever it is enabled or not, they are in normal mode…

This bug was reported on launchpad and has been confirmed : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/454813

I can resolve the problem with right-click > rearrange > and setting specific value for "use compact mode" (for the current directory).

I don't know how to remove this specific settings (and where it is stored), to make it use the default.
Comment 2 Cosimo Cecchi 2009-11-02 16:58:37 UTC
This is intentional, as the preferred view mode is associated to every folder.
When you change the value in the preferences, the default is changed, but the custom view modes which might have already been set for other folders are preserved.

OK, but there is no way to "unset" the specific setting for a folder?

Or at least to clear all specific settings?

Because ok, for testing, I set some folders, but now, when I switch from compact to normal mode, I want this setting to be set for every folder, I don't want to do that for every specific folder.

Thank you.

Please, do you have any solution to "unset" the specific settings for a folder? Or is there absolutely no way to cancel it once it has been set?

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
However, you are using a version that is too old and not supported anymore. GNOME developers are no longer working on that version, so unfortunately there will not be any bug fixes for the version that you use.

By upgrading to a newer version of GNOME you could receive bug fixes and new functionality. You may need to upgrade your Linux distribution to obtain a newer version of GNOME.
Please feel free to reopen this bug if the problem still occurs with a newer version of GNOME.
