GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 600118
gnome-volume-control usability loss
Last modified: 2009-10-30 23:04:38 UTC
linking https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-media/+bug/463589 to upstream. in 2.26 (ubuntu jaunty jackalope/intrepid ibex) gnome-volume-control had a "Line-in as output" radio, used to change the direction of the jack. this control has disappeared from the new 2.28 gnome-volume-control, but is necessary to me. is there a workaround ? alsa-info is attached in the original launchpad filing
This bug needs to be fixed in ALSA or in PulseAudio, it is not an issue that should or can be worked around in g-v-c. I presume your card needs jack retasking if you use Surround audio, right? Or do you need to switch this switch even for stereo output? If this is only needed for surround, then please reassign this to ALSA, they should make sure that the "surround51:xxx" low-level device string toggles this mixer option temporarily and resets it after use, the same way as the "spdif:xxx" device string influences the SPDIF mixer controls. If this is also needed for stereo output, then please reassign this to ALSA as well, they need to include your card in the default mixer database so that it is set up correctly by default.
This should be switchable when switching "profiles" in the hardware tab. If it's not available in the hardware tab, that means PulseAudio/ALSA needs to add support for it. File a bug against PulseAudio.
