Description Joel Ebel 2009-10-29 22:09:09 UTC
Under normal circumstances, with the user list enabled, beginning to type a username opens a search box which selects the appropriate username in the user list. If you disable the user list, this search box serves no purpose, but still appears if you begin typing without clicking Log In first. At the very least, this search box shouldn't appear if the user list is disabled, and ideally, beginning to type a username should open the Username field without requiring that the user first click the Log In button.

The end result of the current behavior is that a user accustomed to just typing their username and password without first clicking Log In winds up typing their username into a search box, pressing enter, and then typing their password into the search box which appears on the screen in plain text.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
However, you are using a version that is too old and not supported anymore. GNOME developers are no longer working on that version, so unfortunately there will not be any bug fixes for the version that you use.

By upgrading to a newer version of GNOME you could receive bug fixes and new functionality. You may need to upgrade your Linux distribution to obtain a newer version of GNOME.
Please feel free to reopen this bug if the problem still occurs with a newer version of GNOME.
