Description Thomas Pasch 2009-10-29 10:04:24 UTC
This a feature request based on running banshee 1.5.1 on Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic).

I've got bad luck in that my computer crashes while banshee rescans the media library. The crash was unassociated with banshee - but I think banshee trashes its SQLite Database. As a consequence I was unable to restart banshee (before removing the old/brocken db file).

For local media, the lost of the db is not critial - just rebuild it. But when you are heavily using the Podcast and/or the Internet Radio feature, loosing the db is a desaster.

Perhaps the following scheme could work well:

1. Before rebuilding the db, make a backup copy of it.
2. When the db is in a inconsistant state, fall back to the backup and inform the user.

As a alternative, the problem would also be less severe if it would be able to export/import podcast and internet radio station. However, a backup of the db is more desireable IMHO.
