Description dlefur 2009-10-25 17:29:40 UTC
Hello,

it is still possible to add a word in the dictionary when correcting a file but these added words are lost when closing the file or moving to another file.

I can reproduce this with gedit 2.28.0 on Fedora 12. Selecting 'Spelling Suggestions' > 'Add' from a context menu or 'Add word' from the spelling check dialog fails to have a permanent effect.

What version of enchant is installed? You can determine this using your package manager, or something like 'enchant --version' or 'pkg-config --modversion enchant'. Thanks.
Comment 3 Paolo Borelli 2010-01-05 14:55:37 UTC
I can reproduce the bug. Here is the enchant version

[paolo@murdock ~]$ enchant -v
@(#) International Ispell Version 3.1.20 (but really Enchant 1.5.0)

[paolo@murdock ~]$ pkg-config --modversion enchant
1.5.0

paolo@murdock ~]$ yum list *spell*
gtkspell.x86_64 2.0.16-1.fc12 @updates-testing
hunspell.x86_64 1.2.8-13.fc12 @updates
hunspell-devel.x86_64 1.2.8-13.fc12 @updates
hunspell-en.noarch 0.20090216-7.fc12 @fedora
hunspell-it.noarch 2.4-0.3.20070901.fc12 @fedora
Comment 4 Theodore Lee 2010-01-06 02:26:17 UTC
I'm fairly sure that I have the same version of enchant installed.

[antiaircraft@aa-laptop ~]$ enchant -v
@(#) International Ispell Version 3.1.20 (but really Enchant 1.5.0)

[antiaircraft@aa-laptop ~]$ rpm -q enchant
enchant-1.5.0-3.fc12.i686

[antiaircraft@aa-laptop ~]$ yum list installed *spell*
Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit
Installed Packages
gtkspell.i686 2.0.16-1.fc12 @updates
hunspell.i686 1.2.8-13.fc12 @updates
hunspell-en.noarch 0.20090216-7.fc12 @fedora

It seems like this issue is AbiWord bug 12350[1], which was causing dictionary files to be truncated upon opening. The bug was fixed in Enchant 1.6.0[2] (which was recently pushed to the Fedora update repos). I can confirm that updating Enchant fixes this bug. :)

Then I'm going to change this as NOTGNOME. Thanks for testing.
