Description Daniel Alonso 2009-10-15 02:35:20 UTC
It seems that a commit from March, 8th setted the default pulseaudio media role for Empathy to be that of "phone".

This seems reasonable during voip calls so it stops any media player actually playing, but it turns out that even notifications about just received chat messages are being tagged the same way, and so continuously "breaking" the media player output. This makes impossible to listen some music while chatting.

This is the reference for the culprit:

http://mail.gnome.org/archives/svn-commits-list/2009-March/msg02455.html

When no in a voip call, it should be set to "event" rather than "phone".

I have same problem with Empathy and Skype too. Should I fill separated issue for Skype?
Comment 2 Xavier Claessens 2009-10-15 08:49:42 UTC
I don't have this problem, event sounds does not stop music, but voip call does. I'm not sure gstreamer/canberra let us tag streams separately.

You have the same problem with Skype client? It is not related to empathy...
Comment 4 Omer Akram 2010-04-18 14:32:48 UTC
This problem does not exist in empathy 2.30.0.1 or simply, does not exist in Lucid :-)
Comment 5 Guillaume Desmottes 2010-09-20 14:39:55 UTC
Closing as now only the audio/video client change the media role.
