Description Christoph Wickert 2009-10-13 09:36:02 UTC
Recently evolution has started to create strange folders from time to time. For example I have a folder called "Buildsys" and suddenly had a "Buildsys.tmp" folder that I definitely did not create. The folder contained a couple of mails, but all were duplicates from the Buildsys folder.

LANG=C ls -l .evolution/mail/local/Computer.sbd/Fedora.sbd/Buildsys.tmp*
-rw-------. 1 chris chris 25352 Sep 28 13:37 .evolution/mail/local/Computer.sbd/Fedora.sbd/Buildsys.tmp
-rw-rw-r--. 1 chris chris    13 Oct 13 11:20 .evolution/mail/local/Computer.sbd/Fedora.sbd/Buildsys.tmp.cmeta
-rw-------. 1 chris chris 11264 Sep 28 13:37 .evolution/mail/local/Computer.sbd/Fedora.sbd/Buildsys.tmp.ibex.index
-rw-------. 1 chris chris  2800 Sep 28 13:37 .evolution/mail/local/Computer.sbd/Fedora.sbd/Buildsys.tmp.ibex.index.data

Today I noticed a folder called "gmane.linux.redhat.fedora.devel". I can open the folder and there are no mails inside, but i can not run any other actions on it such as move, copy or rename. When I try to view it's properties I get an error message which says (roughly translated): "Could not open the folder gmane.linux.redhat.fedora.devel: not a regular file" It's only a directory, no metadata files.

$ LANG=C ls -l .evolution/mail/local/gmane.linux.redhat.fedora.devel/*
-rw-r--r--. 1 chris chris 3072 Oct 10 01:27 .evolution/mail/local/gmane.linux.redhat.fedora.devel/folders.db

$ LANG=C stat .evolution/mail/local/gmane.linux.redhat.fedora.devel/

The complete text of the error message is:
Error while Opening folder mbox:/home/chris/.evolution/mail/local#gmane.linux.redhat.fedora.devel.

Cannot get folder 'gmane.linux.redhat.fedora.devel': not a regular file.

I realized that the folder was created by a message that had "Post to:" enabled. For some mails evolution replies to "Post to:" instead of the reply-to address of that mail. And it doesn't reply to that folder but leaves the messages in the "Sent" folder, but that's a different bug. This one is about folders that evolution creates for some reason. Where does the tmp folder come from?

Can happen when crashing. Have seen this here too a few months ago.
Comment 3 Akhil Laddha 2011-10-13 10:11:10 UTC
Can you please check again whether this issue still happens in Evolution 3.0.3 or 3.2.0 and update this report by adding a comment and changing the "Version"
field? Thanks a lot.
Comment 4 Akhil Laddha 2011-11-24 06:55:37 UTC
Please feel free to reopen this bug if the problem still occurs with a newer
version of Evolution.
Comment 5 Christoph Wickert 2011-11-24 08:42:20 UTC
Sorry for the lack of feedback. The problem hasn't occurred in evolution >= 2.30.
