GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 598000
Add translators metrics in Damned Lies
Last modified: 2018-05-22 12:08:25 UTC
As discussed in GNOME-i18n Mailing List, an idea to improve Damned Lies is to have some translators metrics. Some examples are: how many packages a translator have translated, when a translator contributed for the last time. This can be useful when we, coordinators, will decide the translator promotion to reviewer.
We have two different approaches: - use the statistics we can gather from Vertimus workflow changes and comments (who has approved a translation, who has added a comment ...) - use the git repositories, given that committers/coordinators use the proper --author command line argument - use both :) All approaches can be completely useless for some teams, as some teams do not use the Vertimus workflow, others use it in a different approach, etc etc At the end though, we could use the third approach: - look at the commits' authors in git repositories - count the workflow transitions done by each user A new view could be created to show this data.
Keeping track of one's metrics is a fine thing. I like to see how many commits I've made throughout the year, how many strings I've translated and so on. This feature could be coupled to the final submit. I know, the process of committing the translation is not perfect because sometimes more than one person will have translated the file but as it is now the committer decides who is credited with authorship as well.
