HIG doesn't recommand any shortcut Key for displaying the sidebar (http://library.gnome.org/devel/hig-book/stable/input-keyboard.html.en#standard-shortcuts) whereas Totem, Gedit and Rhythmbox for instance (and Midori from Xfce) make use of F9.
HIG could mention to use F9 to display the sidebar
