GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 597388
gnomeradio doesn't work in ubuntu 9.10
Last modified: 2012-11-16 13:29:05 UTC
Gnomeradio is not working in 9.10 Beta (Karmic) with several (maybe all) cards. It gives a static noise and can find no stations. Other radio capable apps (like rythmbox) works fine so I suppose it is a gnomeradio issue. It was working fine in 9.04 (jaunty). see also: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnomeradio/+bug/422696
news?
This bug can be solved changing the default driver from "any" to "v4l2" with gconf-editor. This program should be repackaged with this new default value.
Here is the related kernel bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/475165 The underlying fault is a bug introduced to the v4l1_compat kernel driver that causes it to report an error when reading the tuner settings from a radio card (due to the radio driver not implementing the TV standard ioctls). Given that all the kernel drivers have been converted to V4L2, and V4L1 is handled through a compatibility layer, it'd make sense to update gnomeradio to try V4L2 in preference to V4L1. This isn't the first time bugs have appeared in the compatibility layer, and probably won't be the last.
I get the same in Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid). The tuner is detected and device /dev/radio0 is created. Stations can be scanned and are tuned. Changing the default driver setting in GConf from "any" to "v4l2" doesn't work :(
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. However, this module is dead, so it won't recive more bug fixes nor updates.
According to its developer, gnomeradio is not under active development anymore. It is unlikely that there will be any further active development. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping - Please feel free to reopen this bug report in the future if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again.
