We should show a warning when about to perform max-idle action in session (eg. logout).

On the other hand... maybe we should also be showing other types of system/session mesages like critical battery warnings etc.

This is obsolete.  I've added a somewhat generic message system that the session can use.  Going forward we'll have to think about how the screensaver integrates nicely with gnome-shell.
