Output from 'rhythmbox -D player' would probably help here.

I've seen it before, maybe https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/packagekit/+bug/389766 ? Anyway, the main point is I'm having a hell of a time replicating this now. I'll keep trying but I have a feeling this may have been squashed already.
