GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 596737
No obvious way to view all the history
Last modified: 2011-06-10 09:04:54 UTC
When in conversation history, one can scroll through days/month/years, but there's no way of knowing that certain day has messages in it. It's be much more convenient to have list of days with messages, excluding empty days, 'cause frankly they not needed at all.
Days with logs in are in bold, where days without logs are not in bold...
There still a lot of noise - i.e. empty days. Why can't it be just list?
Art, it sounds like you're suggesting replacing the calendar view with list of days on which there are any messages from anyone in the Contact List, or any messages from anyone the user connects to using the selected protocol. Is that right? Could you provide a mockup or sketch of your proposed UI?
Created attachment 146543 [details] ui sample This is how pidgin's log window looks like and while it's far from perfect it's still less noise in there and less tinking is required to browse the logs. What they are missing though is the ability to view logs for a whole month/year but I am not raising it with them as they are just too stubborn. So, it'd be nice to have: - List of days where there's some conversations, leaving out empty days - Ability to view whole month/year of conversations without having to click on individual days (ie when particular month/year is selected) Hope it helps

Reopening as requested information has been provided
Solved with the new log viewer (bug #619866). This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
