Description Jon Dufresne 2009-09-28 18:13:52 UTC
Not sure if this is a Gimp bug or a gtk+ bug, but I see the behavior in Gimp.

If you try to open a Windows shortcut file (*.lnk) that points to a valid image file Gimp can not open it. Gimp gives the error message:

"""
Opening 'C:\path\to\file\Shortcut to image.jpg.lnk' failed:

Unknown file type
"""

If instead, you try to open the image by drag n drop, (drag the shortcut icon over top the gimp tools icons), the image opens correctly.

STR:
1. Create shortcut of valid image file.
2. In gimp do "File->Open..."
3. Navigate to and select the shortcut created. You might need to select the "All Files" filter to see it.
4. Receive error message from Gimp.
