GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 596247
Brasero often doesn't update its view of disks after its an operation
Last modified: 2018-09-21 16:51:39 UTC
The most reproducible example is to take a closed CD-RW, and blank it. After that, you won't be able to record on it till brasero is restarted. I spotted same effect in many more places.
I'm not the developer, but this might be related: GIO (hardware backend for Brasero) cannot re-read the disc status after you burn or change it. This is why the "eject after burn" is done for normal CDs -- GNOME can only update the status of a disc if it is reinserted. "The problem here is that the disc does not get ejected. As long as it is not ejected then for GIO/GVFS/nautilus it remains in the state it was in before the burning." From https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=591640#3
Thanks for the report. Jud is correct here. Brasero should eject the disc (and sometimes for an unknown reason it does not =( recently) to update the system of the disc new status. So this bug is indeed a side effect of #591640. My priority is to work on all those problem of ejection/tray opening/tray closing for 2.28.1.
In addition to working on fixing the disc volume ejection in Brasero... Why can't GIO be designed to auto-update disc status? This seems like a known issue - is there an upstream bug?
Sorry for the very late reply. The problem seems to be more a limitation of the hardware (apparently many drive cannot or do not properly do it after a blank) rather than a bug in itself.
