GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 595600
Horizontal scrolling and tooltips for section titles in the index pane
Last modified: 2009-09-20 13:59:10 UTC
Created attachment 143449 [details] Screenshot with narow index pahe that truncates section titles In the Index pane of the evince window, the contents of the document is shown as a tree. This is good. The bad is, this pane can be narrow and evince only shows truncates the document's sections titles, to fit the width of the pane. If the sections of the document are nested, their titles in the index pane are offset to the right according to the nesting, and often you can only see three-four letters from the section title. There is no way to scroll the index pane horizontally, and the evince does not show a full section title text as a tooltip when mouse pointer is hovering over it. And it is not very convenient to resize the index pane every time you want to see the contents and then resize it back when you want to read the chosen page of the document. The index pane would be much more useful if it had a horizontal scrolling and a tooltips with complete section title. And I would suggest removing ellipses (...) that indicate that the section title was truncated. This just adds to the offense of not being able to see the full section title: in place of those ellipses, couple more letters of the section title could be made visible. Similarly, the page numbers could be removed - they also truncate section title. At least, displaying page numbers could be a user preference option. I'm attaching the screenshot image that illustrates the problem.
