Description Benjamin Otte (Company) 2009-09-18 08:00:12 UTC
This bug tracks my efforts adding a gst-plugins-cairo that moves raw video handling to Cairo as completely as possible.

For a synopsis, read http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=4AAE84B3.7070203%40gmail.com&forum_name=gstreamer-devel

For running it, you need:
pixman:
  http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~company/pixman/log/?h=yuv
cairo:
  http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~company/cairo/log/?h=yuv
gst-plugins-cairo:
  http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~company/gst-plugins-cairo

gst-plugins-cairo is a set of completely new elements. The pixman and cairo branches track the master branches of the two repositories, and only add to them, so it is perfectly fine to install them in /usr (it's what I'm doing).

Just for completeness, I've posted an update on my work to the list. It can be found at

How are you planning to move forward with this, Benjamin? Seems that there was no progress since a very long time

I suppose we can close this, as I don't see anybody actually pushing this anywhere. People seem way more interested in going down a different route, probably using a buffer storage closer to the hardware (EGL? DRM?). I might revisist cairo plugins back when that is in place, I might revisit the gst-plugins-cairo idea. But I can reopen the bug then.
