This is only indirectly related to PA. Whenever you know the actual attenuation factor of a volume value you should present it in a cubic scale on the screen. 

pulsesink is just one provider of the new interface that makes this easier to do.

That cubic volumes are user-friendly and linear volumes are not is a truth that doesn't change whith the backend you use.
