GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 592833
remember the settings of the last used audio devices
Last modified: 2009-09-29 06:45:20 UTC
Let's take the use case of laptops, usb sound cards or usb headsets/mics. These can be hotplugged anytime with pulseaudio. However, gnome-volume-control doesn't seem to remember their settings, or even which one was set as the true default. There are two problems: 1- plug a usb mic, change its volume and unplug/replug, its volume will be reset 2- plug a usb mic, set it as the default device, unplug/replug, it is not the default anymore. I'm somewhat guessing that if someone has more than 2 devices, this may get ugly quickly regarding problem #2. I'm not sure how to solve that, and if it belongs to a separate bug report?
1) is a PulseAudio problem which is already supposed to be fixed. As for 2), it's close to bug 593752, where we'd like to handle transient devices better. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 593752 ***
Bastien, do you know the bug number for the first problem that is supposed to be fixed in pulseaudio)? Moreover, ubuntu 9.10 now has pulseaudio version 0.9.18, which came out exactly a week ago; however, I still experience that bug in ubuntu 9.10.
(In reply to comment #2) > Bastien, do you know the bug number for the first problem that is supposed to > be fixed in pulseaudio)? No idea which one, I was told that by PulseAudio developers. You might want to file a bug against PulseAudio for your distribution if the problem still exists. > Moreover, ubuntu 9.10 now has pulseaudio version > 0.9.18, which came out exactly a week ago; however, I still experience that bug > in ubuntu 9.10.
Uh, we have been saving/restoring the volume of all devices since almost the beginning of time. And I just tested this here again, and things work just fine. Restoring the default device after replug is something we'll fix post 0.9.18.
