GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 592809
MS LCS / MS Office Communicator / SIPE Protocol Support
Last modified: 2018-05-22 13:39:18 UTC
The Empathy site claims that it supports the same protocols as Pidgin, but that *seems* misleading, as I think Empathy doesn't support Microsoft Live Communication Server / Microsoft Office Communicator / SIPE (different names for the same) protocol. Pidgin supports the protocol via the pidgin-sipe package. Empathy replaces Pidgin in the next Ubuntu release (9.10), and I'd like to use it, but I rely on the SIPE plugin. Please consider adding support for this protocol. http://sipe.sourceforge.net/
I think this should work once Empathy will switch to MC5 and so will stop to rely on profiles. Marking this bug as blocked by bug #590165. Please retry once it's fixed.
FYI: on Fedora (at least F13) the combination Empathy + telepathy-haze + pidgin-sipe works nicely. That's telepathy-haze 0.3.3 without profiles. But there is one request for the Empathy developers: could you please add the icons for SIPE (im-sipe)? You can use the files from the pidgin-sipe repository. <http://repo.or.cz/w/siplcs.git/tree/cd88128aeb3e8293466e4e49183e0090674dc59b:/pixmaps>
One more request I would like to add is for OCS I wanted to use a specific proxy server, but the option is not there in empathy. empathy always want to use the system configured proxy, but does not allow account specific proxies like pidgin does... I have to use pidgin for OCS (only) just because of this missing feature.. otherwise empathy is such a great client with google and facebook. Ghat
