GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 592441
Show/Edit accounts button invisible
Last modified: 2010-01-13 11:50:15 UTC
It is all but obvious that there is a button to open the accounts window on the right side of the status dropdown box. Currently it looks like the dropdown box is positioned incorrectly. Either add and icon (hard to find a metaphor) or label (will make the whole list unnecessarily wide) to make the button visible or (very much preferred) remove it.

Hmm, just noticed that a spinner is shown in this place on login... Maybe move that into the chooser button, e.g. have the spinner show up instead of the status? After all you are not really "online" until the spinner stops spinning for example. As for opening the accounts window, I don't think we really need the extra button at all.
Placing the spinning inside the chooser is not a good idea because some accounts can be online while some are connecting. Hiding the spinner when it is not spinning would be a better solution IMHO.
I can confirm that this is quite confusing... I was just about to open a bug when I found this bug! There is an area with a tooltip where you can open the accounts-dialog but how can anybody find it if its just blank? What about showing the spinner spinning when connecting and showing the spinner still when all (enabled) accounts are connected?
I'm not sure, Epiphany does the same btw, the spinner is only displayed when loading. Nick: Mpt: what do you think?
Pidgin's behavior is pretty nice. While connecting, the status icon becomes a spinner, and "- Connecting" is appended in a lighter-weight font to the current status. For example, when I launch Pidgin, I believe it displays: SPINNER Available - Connecting then AVAILABLE Available once fully connected. I recommend taking this approach, and making the status combobox occupy the full width of the contact list (remove the invisible accounts button).
Sounds sensible to me.
Closing as a dup of #598446 as the branch fixing it made the presence chooser grow into the space taken by the spinner when it's not spinning. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 598446 ***
