When I changed the background type to "transparent",
the change didn't happen.

If I select 'background should be shaded" option with
transparent option, the error message pops up.

>How-To-Repeat:
Open gnome terminal preference.
select "transparent"
select "background should be shaded"

Please upgrade to the latest packages and see if that fixes it for
you. Your release is fairly old by now.
