Description Victor Gavrish 2009-08-17 22:38:49 UTC
Reposting a bug from Ububntu's Launchpad:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/397192
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/412040
Look at these for more information.

Af far as I can tell, the bug happens when opening a folder containing any big video file and trying to open the file, or even selecting it, when any kind of previews (even if it's set to "Local files only" and "Only for smaller files than": "5 MB") is enabled.

The bug goes as follows: first nautilus hogs 100% of CPU, though the system is still somewhat responsive, and begins to chuck away at RAM. A few minutes later, it takes up whatever virtual memory is free and finally hangs. This can be seen in e.g. top.

There were troubles with producing backtraces, because gdb won't respond to ctrl-c when nautilus hangs, but I think somebody managed to provide one usable backtrace here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/397192/comments/8
