Description Meik Hellmund 2009-08-12 18:54:36 UTC
The new gdm is ok, but I really miss the design flexibility of the old gdmgreeter. Since http://gnome-look.org/index.php?xcontentmode=150 shows nearly 2000 themes for gdm (and the most popular ones have more than 100,000 downloads) I believe that I am not alone with this wish.

It would be great if the new gdm would support the gdmgreeter style XML themes:
so much work has been done on themes up until now ... what a pity!

Actually, as an Ubuntu Karmic user, I'm suffering the same pain the Fedora users suffered some time ago: fortunately karmic provides gdm 2.20 and I've already downgraded it on my system.

I believe it is not that rare for users (even the dumb ones) customizing their desktops and login screen: why the new version has been let incomplete without this feature so long?

Someone is of course free to write their own greeter but we don't have plans to add this to the default.
