GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 591197
Cannot Reinstall Theme After Removal
Last modified: 2018-08-17 19:41:55 UTC
Please describe the problem: "Installation for theme "name_of_the_theme" failed. Can't move directory over directory" This error message is presented if someone manually installs a theme, removes it, and tries to reinstall the same theme. Steps to reproduce: 1. Install a theme through the "Appearance" part of Gnome 2. "Delete" the theme 3. Try to put the same theme back on (either immediately or later on) Actual results: "Installation for theme "name_of_the_theme" failed. Can't move directory over directory" Expected results: I expect it to re-install Does this happen every time? Yes Other information: Workaround is to delete the theme's folder in ~/.themes/ directory. The program should either: 1)delete the folder upon removal of theme, or 2)replace folder when reinstalling. I believe option 1 would be most beneficial.
This bug is still present in Gnome 2.28.1

gnome-themes is not under active development anymore since 2011. As written in https://gitlab.gnome.org/Archive/gnome-themes/commit/4df81cf0a7fd8d3da6591c4c142f47dfd7778d5f , it is obsolete. Its codebase has been archived: https://gitlab.gnome.org/Archive/gnome-themes/commits/master Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is deprecated) if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again.
