Description David Förster 2009-08-03 09:38:12 UTC
Hi,

I just switched from Pidgin to Empathy.

Some (not all) of my ICQ contacts are only displayed with their ICQ number. This also occured with Pidgin but it had a function "Retrieve contact details" which pulled the nickname from the server and displayed it in the contact list. With Empathy I haven't found a way to get the nicknames displayed. ("Information" displays the number both as identifier and alias.)

This is an issue I experience on both my Debian (testing) and Ubuntu (stable) machines.

I'd say that Haze should poke the server automatically if it needs to. Feel free to open a telepathy-haze bug about that on https://bugs.freedesktop.org/

Well I don't know what Haze and what it has to do with Empathy. I'm just a user of your software trying to improve it by reporting this bug. The rest is really up to you (fix it, forward it if appropriate, ignore it, ...).

I just figure it would be in your own interest making your software usable to ordinary people.

I opened https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25157 about this issue.
