Description Ned 2009-07-31 14:33:57 UTC
[reported in launchpad bugtracker: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/407292]

"Hi,
I have been presenting two desktops in Ubuntu to my friend and he constantly asked me which desktop is currently displayed. I think current desktop is not marked enough. I think there should be some kind of square around currently displayed desktop. Please see attached window.
Regards"
Comment 1 André Klapper 2009-07-31 16:11:51 UTC
I don't see an issue here.
The desktop that has a background color is the active one.
In Ubuntu it's brown, in Fedora it's blue.
For future reference please attach screenshots in GNOME Bugzilla.
Comment 2 Marcus Carlson 2009-08-16 14:03:51 UTC
I cannot see any problem either as the window background color also changes. In case it's too hard to see I think it's a theme (or ubuntu-only-uses-two-workspaces) problem.

I don't find it at all easy in the screenshots attached to tell which workspace is selected.

And don't you think this should be considered a bug even if I choose to use only two workspaces?

I'd like to be able to tell at a glance which workspace is selected and I'm sure there are small changes which would make it far more obvious.

Would you please mark this as confirmed? I would feel much encouraged about working to solve this. Thanks :)

Small patch to add a border around the active workspace

Try this patch and see if it's better than before.

Hmm. This bug is in the wrong product, it should be libwnck.
I just mention this so the patch is applied to the correct source.
Comment 9 Vincent Untz 2010-03-09 01:47:15 UTC
Thanks for the patch. But I think it's actually more confusing since it looks like there's another window this way.

I guess the real issue is that you're using compiz. So it's not workspaces, but a viewport.
