Description robert.dady 2009-07-21 13:10:11 UTC
Please describe the problem:
After cut / paste some files (usually pdfs) - last was ~50MB is not shown anymore, and mouse pointer shows "loading" state. This file can be opened with the open dialog and works properly using acroread.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Cut and Paste a file - does not come up always, just sometimes

Actual results:
The file icon won't be shown in either view in Nautilus and mouse pointer is in 'loading' state.

Expected results:
Normal functionality.

Does this happen every time?
No, It happened only 4 times after full Fedora Core 10 install, now I'm using FC11.

When I try to make a copy (cp in terminal) of this file as file2, it appears and the file2 is shown like the preview would be loading, but it never shows. Then I move to the parent directory and back again, at this point none of the both files is show, but the mouse pointer still is in 'loading' state, that doesnt stop at all.
This is on an external USB driver with EXT3 (~125GB). When I unmount and switch off the drive, switch on and mount again, the phenomenon is still there.

The phenomenon seems to be solved by going to the parent directory and renaming the directory. When I go back the pdf (the original and the copy) is shown normally and the preview shows up too. Functions as it was intended to be.
I can rename the directory back to original and everything works fine.

I "think" the launchpad bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/487850 is about the same problem.

Original description from the reporter (translated from Spanisch):
>>>
Nautilus doesn´t work fine, sometimes tries to load a folder but never finish and some files aren´t be shown.
Nautilus works fine as root.
Thunar work without problems.
The problem could be the movie files.
Only software installed since oficial repositories
Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit version.
<<<

I am not sure, but I think I experienced this bug several times, too. It happens when doing some file/folder management (moving, copying, renaming), but I can not consistently reproduce it.

Nautilus will not display all folder in a directory (even after finishing loading), but when I check via the gnome-terminal, the files are there.

If this occurs again, I will screencapture it, so it becomes clear what it is actually like.

Workaround:
If you know the name of a folder in the directory that down't show all of its content, click the icon next to the location bar, add the folder name and press enter. Nautilus will display the folder without problems. If you then click the back arrow, nautilus will correctly display the original folder with all its files.

Is this still a problem in 2.32?
Comment 4 robert.dady 2010-12-31 08:52:46 UTC
2.32 on FC14 seems not to have this issue.

Thanks for rechecking.
