GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 588602
[blocked] Orca doesn't read the labels for toggle buttons in Evolution.
Last modified: 2012-08-14 21:21:43 UTC
Please describe the problem: Navigating Evolution GUI Orca doesn't present labels for "mail", "tasks", "notes" labels for toggle buttons. Steps to reproduce: 1. Start Orca screen reader. 2. Start Evolution. 3. With tab key tab to the "mail" or "tasks" toggle buttons. Actual results: Orca only reports that focus is on a toggle button, but doesnt present more information on which one. Expected results: Orca should present complete information for these toggles "mail toggle button" etc. Does this happen every time? Yes, since 2.27.x Other information: Using Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 with Evolution 2.26.1
Javier - please test with the git master branch. I just checked on my OpenSolaris box with Evolution 2.24.2 and it worked fine for me.
Created attachment 138515 [details] Debug file Attached debug file with the latest git master... I am using Speech dispatcher.. don't know now if this has to do with the issue.
OK not a Orca bug... deeping more into it I have reached to "appearance selector" under view menu... and option selected was "show icons" changed to "text only" and worked fine. Should this bug be moved to another a11y bug for Evolution staff? even in icon view Evolution should provide description for these icons.
Thanks for digging into this some more. I'll take a look at the icon-only view in accerciser and see if Evolution is giving Orca any information it can use.
In looking at the hierarchy in accerciser, I'm not seeing any accessible names associated with the toggle button or the image on the toggle button. I've opened bug #588775 for this and will block this one against it. I noticed the toggle buttons have tooltips with text on them, and pressing Ctrl+F1 brings up the tooltips. However, I also noticed Orca wasn't always presenting them for some reason. I've opened bug #588774 for that problem.
